One of three Godolphin runners in the race, this one, who is directly trained by Mahmood Al Zarooni and has been supplemented for over £75,000 to take his chance in the Epsom Derby.
On form alone he looks like he will not be good enough, a sentiment reflected by the horse’s betting odds of around the 66/1 mark. However, to supplement a 50/1 shot is rare suggesting that connections are very optimistic over his chances. On the plus side he has raced at a very high level, but has always found too many too good for him, certainly over the shorter distances.
He was third in a Group 1 at Longchamp on Arc day, which he followed up with by finishing 5th in the Group 1 Dewhurst Stakes. He was well beaten in the 2000 Guineas in his first run as a 3 year old but more recently he ran well when 4th in the French 1000 Guineas last month.
It is reasonable form but hardly Derby winning form so unless he improves enormously and gets the extra half mile at Epsom we do not see how he can win. That said, at 50/1 he may well be worth an each way flutter as he clearly has some ability.
