Crowded House was at the top end of the betting market for The Derby throughout the winter following some impressive wins in 2008. The Brian Meehan trained horse won the Racing Post Trophy in October with an excellent display at Doncaster. That race has always been a good pointer to The Derby in previous years with several winners going on to triumph at Epsom in the big one.
However, his seasonal reappearance at the Dante Stakes was somewhat of a disappointing performance which has seen him drift considerably in the market. He was never involved in the Dante and looked to be off form heading to The Derby. He is still clearly a class horse and if he is able to re-produce his form from the Racing Post Trophy then he is still capable of defying the Derby Odds. He will need to improve on his run in the Dante however if he is to figure at all at Epsom. Trainer Brian Meehan has been talking up Crowded House's chances this week despite that run in The Dante saying he has been looking right back in top form ahead of Saturday, which has seen some money come for him. He may well be the best of the British challenge along with Kite Wood so is likely to see further backing.
