Dante Stakes Epsom Derby Trial

This race takes place during the Dante meeting at York in May each year. It is a Group 2 raced over 1 mile and 2 furlongs and has proven to be an excellent guide for the Epsom Derby over recent years.

Nine horses in fact have gone on to win the Derby after winning the Dante, the most recent of which was Authorized, trained by Peter Chapple-Hyam who won in 2007. Other recent dual winners have been Motivator for the Michael Bell yard in 2005 and Benny The Dip, trained by John Gosden who won both in 1997.

Trainers with particularly good records in this race are Aidan O'Brien and Sir Michael Stoute, who have won the race five times between them in the last ten renewals.
