Epicuris adds a European flavour to the 2015 Epsom Derby as the Criquette Head-Maarek-trained star is aiming to emulate Pour Moi by landing the Classic for France, but the Rail Link colt is available at huge double-figured odds for the Group 1 contest that takes centre stage on June 6.
- 6th April 2015 - Longchamp - Prix La Force (Group 3) - 1m 2f - 2nd
Criquette Head-Maarek is one of the star French trainers and she will be aiming to land Epsom Derby glory on June 6 when she saddles Epicuris, who was a Group 1 winner as a juvenile when winning the Criterium de Saint-Cloud, but he will need to improve to land a blow in this contest.
Unbeaten in his three starts as a juvenile, the son of Rail Link was unable to maintain that unblemished record on his seasonal reappearance, as he could only finish second in the Group 3 Prix La Force at Longchamp, so he needs to build on that effort to feature prominently here against proving top class three-year-old colts.
He has often performed well in soft conditions, so if the weather dries up at Epsom in the days leading up to the race then he will have to show he can act on quicker ground, whilst he can be a little fractious at the stalls, so will need to be on his best behaviour, as he opts to line up in this race rather than the French Derby.

VERDICT: Epicuris is an intriguing addition to the Derby field, but he lacks the quality on paper of some of his rivals and could have to settle for the minor honours in this fascinating Classic renewal on June 6.
