Giovanni Canaletto Betting
Giovanni Canaletto is set to be one of three Aidan O'Brien-trained runners in the 2015 Investec Derby, as the Ballydoyle handler attempts to win the Classic for the fourth year in a row, but this son of Galileo will need to improve on what he has shown on the track and is available at double-figured odds.
- 24th May 2015 - Curragh - Gallinule Stakes (Group 3) - 1m 2f - 2nd
Giovanni Canaletto has always been held in high regard at Aidan O'Brien's stable, but he took two attempts to break his maiden tag, as on debut he could only finish third at Navan before a couple of weeks later he landed a Leopardstown contest by over six lengths to enhance his reputation.
Having only started his juvenile campaign in October, then he was only given the two runs and he was handed his seasonal reappearance as a three-year-old in the Gallinule Stakes at the Curragh, but he could only finish second in that Group 3 contest and many believed he would not take his place in the Derby.
However, with O'Brien not sending Guineas hero Gleneagles to Epsom then he will unleash this charge along with Hans Holbein and Kilimanjaro, and whilst his form doesn't look strong enough to figure in a Derby it's hard to completely ignore a Ballydoyle contender and he's sure to prove popular amongst punters.

VERDICT: Giovanni Canaletto could be the third string for Aidan O'Brien and he lacks the positive form of some of his rivals, but a son of Galileo can never be under-estimated and he could be many people's outside bet for the Investec Derby on June 6.
