Sir Henry Cecil
Until the emergence of Aidan O’Brien, it was Henry Cecil who was regarded as the best trainer in Europe and it his stable that seems to be re-emerging once again. Cecil has already saddled four winners of the Epsom Derby before sadly passing away in 2013.
His last win in the Derby in fact came back in 1999, when Oath won the race ridden by Kieren Fallon, before that he won with Commander In Chief in 1993, Reference Point in 1989 and Slip Anchor in 1987. In all Cecil has trained 24 Classic winners, with a further six in Ireland, however he is yet to saddle the winner of the Europe’s biggest prize, the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe.
