Winner of the Group 2 Derrinstown Stud Derby Trial at Leopardstown on 9th May, this Aidan O’Brien trained colt has significantly improved over the winter and will come to Epsom as very much a main player.
As a juvenile he hosed up in a good quality maiden in his second start before going to France to contest the Group 1 Grand Criterium at Saint-Cloud. Unfortunately his reputation took a turn for the worse in that race as he could only manage 4th place after failing to manage the soft ground.
That race in fact was won by stablemate, Jan Vermeer, who is also likely to line up in the 2010 Derby along three others from the yard, race favourite, Jan Vermeer and Midas Touch, plus Pacemaker At First Sight.
In fairness, the Derrinstown Stud was not the best of renewals this season with only four going to post, however, Midas Touch did what he had to do coming home an easy winner with plenty of improvement left in him before Epsom. The bookmakers have reported significant market support for the colt who has been backed in from the 14/1 mark to 13/2.
