Rip Van Winkle
Rip Van Winkle is a horse that a lot of people have been backing for The Derby for quite a while now following some good performances. The Aidan O'Brien trained horse won on his first two runs in impressive fashion which sparked the The Derby talk. Johnny Murtagh has taken the ride on him on each of his four runs so far which means he clearly thinks a lot of this horse although he has been slightly disappointing on his last two runs.
He went into the 2000 Guineas as one of the favourites but came in a solid if unspectacular 4th place at Newmarket. His build up had been disrupted with a bruised foot which maybe the reason for this result. He is still a horse that many punters believe will go close at Epsom but some still need convincing he will stay the trip. Either way, Rip Van Winkle is likely to head to Epsom as one of the leading contenders in the The Derby Odds. It has been announced that Ballydoyle No 1 Johnny Murtagh has chosen Rip Van Winkle to ride ahead of the more fancied Fame and Glory which will be a big boost for Rip Van Winkle fans.
