Rocky Rider Betting
Rocky Rider is set to be Andrew Balding's second string in the 2015 Investec Derby, as he will join Elm Park in the Epsom Classic on June 6, but his form certainly doesn't match up to that of his stablemate and he may find things tough in Group 1 company if he takes his chance in the race.
- 2nd May 2015 - Newmarket - Newmarket Stakes (Listed) - 1m 2f - 4th
- 16th April 2015 - Newmarket - 200,000 Tatts Millions 3-Y-O Trophy - 1m 2f - 3rd
- 19th March 2015 - Chelmsford - Bet Totetrifecta Handicap - 1m 2f - 1st
Andrew Balding will saddle Rocky Rider in the Derby and on all form guides the son of Galileo should struggle now sent into Group company, but he will relish the 1m 4f trip and is sure to be producing his best work in the final stages of the Epsom Downs Classic, which takes centre stage on June 6.
He kicked off his season with a win on the all-weather at Chelmsford City in March, before he ran creditably when third in the valuable 200,000 Tattersalls Millions 3-Y-O Trophy at Newmarket, a venue he would next be seen at on May 2 being comfortably dispatched by Best Of Times, who is set to run in the Derby.
Balding's charge could only finish fourth to the Godolphin raider in the Listed Newmarket Stakes, so will have some significant form to find with his rival if they do battle in the Derby, whilst he will also need to improve significantly when taking on some top class middle distance colts.

VERDICT: Rocky Rider will face a gargantuan task to land any sort of a blow in the 2015 Derby and whilst he could enjoy the step up to 1m 4f he lacks the class of some of his rivals and will struggle to finish in the first half dozen of the Group 1 Classic on June 6.
