Simon De Montfort
It is rare to see an Andre Fabre trained horse running in the Epsom Derby, but the master French trainer may have one this year in the form of Simon De Montfort, winner of two starts already as a three year old at both Listed and Group 3 level.
The horse is actually one of those being trained by Fabre on behalf of Godolphin and he does not have an entry for the race, meaning that they will have to supplement him if he is to run. All the signs however are that they will, as he is a huge improver and looked mightily impressive last time out in April, when coming from last to first at Longchamp over 1 mile and 2 furlongs.
That win gave him four wins from five starts and he is already being talked up as a major challenger to the apparent O’Brien stranglehold on the race. He has been entered in the antepost market for the race where he is currently around 14/1 to win.
