Although one of the outsiders Ted Spread, trained by Mark Tomkins was a good winner over of the Group 3, Chester Vase over 1½ miles on May 6th and now has odds of around 33/1 for the Epsom Derby. He had one or two useful looking sorts behind him that day, including one time Derby fancy, Rocket Man, trained by Aidan O’Brien.
his recent work on the gallops has also been very encouraging with Tomkins commenting that the colt is in great shape and exactly where they want him. If he has anything against him it will be firm ground meaning that Tomkins is hopeful of some rain before the big race. However there is no doubting his ability to get the trip at Epsom where he could prove to be a solid each way chance. He will be ridden by Darly Holland.
