Tower Rock Betting
Aidan O'Brien has opted to enhance his bid for Epsom Derby glory with Tower Rock this year. Tower Rock is an outsider in the betting for the Classic on the Downs but has produced some notable performances, not least when landing a Navan maiden on his second start as a 2-year-old in October. The son of Dylan Thomas finished third on his final outing of 2011 at Leopardstown but has caught the eye during 2012.
It is those performances during 2012 that have convinced O'Brien to give Tower Rock his chance at Epsom this year and the Irish trainer has gone mob-handed in his quest for a first Derby winner since High Chaparral in 2002.
Tower Rock might be priced at big odds by the bookies but a couple of decent efforts as a 3-year-old will ensure he is treated with respect. The Dylan Thomas colt finished third to Light Heavy in the Ballysax Stakes on his reappearance before nearly causing a big upset at the same course in May. The 3-year-old was used as a pacemaker for Wrote in the Derrinstown Stud Derby Trial Stakes but ended up eclipsing his stablemate to finish a narrow second to Light Heavy. He will need to overshadow more illustrious stablemates again at the Derby.

VERDICT: The Derrinstown Stud Derby Trial runner-up will need to upset the odds and eclipse more illustrious stablemates for the second race running.
