Fielden Stakes

Feilden Stakes Derby Trial

Although not a Group race, this Listed affair over 1 mile and 1 furlong on the Rowley Mile at Newmarket is often viewed, particularly by local trainers, as an opportunity to get an early run into some of their better quality three year old colts and fillies, who may have Derby or Oaks potential. It takes place on the first day of the annual Craven Meeting.

As far as producing Epsom Derby winners is concerned, it has been quite poor over the years, but Erhaab, trained by John Dunlop and ridden by Willy Carson was second in the Feilden Stakes in 1994 but went on to win the Derby later that year as the 7/2 favourite.
